KEN provides two search mechanisms: Quick Search and Advanced Search.
Quick Search
Quick search finds the search terms you provide in the KEN database. Quick search will look for your search term in article contents, comments, page titles, and other database fields.
To quickly search KEN:
- Type the word(s) you want to find into the search box in the left column.
- Click "GO".
Tips:
- By default, quick search searches all of KEN. To narrow your search to a specific area (e.g. the discussion groups), choose a space on the search results page and click 'search' again.
- You can further refine search results using the filter bar at the top of the search results. Enter a term in the box above the column you wish to filter then click the 'filter' button.
- You can sort search results by clicking the arrow icons in at the top of the search result table.
Advanced Search
Advanced search offers several advantages over quick search:
- It searches attachments (such as PDF or Microsoft Word documents)
- It provides ranking for search results.
- It makes it easier to view results by splitting them into multiple pages when necessary.
- It is faster than quick search.
- It supports more complex queries.
To search using the advanced search:
- Click "Advanced Search" in the main menu.
- Enter the terms you wish to find.
- Click search.
Tips:
- By default, advanced search searches all of KEN. To narrow your search to a specific area (e.g. the discussion groups), choose a space on the search results page and click 'search' again.
- You can learn about the search syntax used by advanced search on the Xwiki website.
- You can further refine search results using the filter bar at the top of the search results. Enter a term in the box above the column you wish to filter then click the 'filter' button.
- You can sort search results by clicking the arrow icons in at the top of the search result table.
You can browse for articles on a given subject using the topics panel in the left column. The author(s) who contribute the article decide which subject is appropriate for the article they are posting.
To browse for content:
- Click on a subject heading in the topic panel.
- Click on a desired sub-heading until you find the subject you want.
- Click on your desired subject to retrieve all of the documents filed under that topic.
Tips:
- Each top-level heading (displayed on the panel by default) includes an 'All' sub-heading. Click on 'All' to retrieve every document filed under the associated top-level heading.
- You can filter and sort all the documents filed under a specific heading just like you can with search results.
